In this video we interviewd a few adult individuals to get an idea of how the poem, "Invictus", is often perceived.
We found out that a commonly understood theme of this poem is bravery and perseverance. The concept that Henley was in a hospital while writing this poem was understood because of the gloomy and depressing tone most especially at the beginning of the poem. These individuals also noticed that in the final stanza of "Invictus" there is a personally encouraging tone which is most commonly known as perseverance. Our last speaker was touched greatly by this poem and he believes it is pure beauty. He frequently related the poem to everyday life and thus believed it to have a moral anyone can learn and that is "no matter what the obstacle, we can always over come it even if there will be difficult events along the way; life is not satisfactory without challenges in it." |
